Rowing split pace: time per 500 meters
Rowing performance is conventionally measured as time per 500m, not overall speed. Covering 2,000m in 420 seconds (7 minutes) gives a split of (420 / 2,000) × 500 = 105 seconds per 500m — the standard number rowers compare against each other and their own past performances.
Cycling average speed: distance over time, in familiar units
Average cycling speed is simply distance divided by time. Covering 40 km in 1.5 hours gives an average speed of 40 / 1.5 ≈ 26.7 km/h — a number that's easy to track ride over ride to gauge fitness progression.
Calories burned cycling: intensity, weight, and duration together
Using the MET-based formula (MET × weight in kg × duration in hours), a 70 kg rider cycling at a moderate pace (MET 8) for one hour burns approximately 560 kcal — hills, wind, and stop-and-go riding all push actual burn higher than this flat-pace estimate.
